    Laughlin

Laughlin is a unique state-line city separated from Arizona by the Colorado River. Its founder, Don Laughlin, bought an eight-room motel here in 1964 and basically built the town from scratch. By the early 1980s Laughlin's Riverside Hotel-Casino was drawing gamblers and river rats from northwestern Arizona, southeastern California, and even southern Nevada, and his success attracted other casino operators. Today Laughlin is the state's third major resort area, attracting more than 3 million visitors annually. The city fills up on weekends with a large population of retired travelers in the winter, whereas the summer is more likely to attract a younger resort-loving crowd. Take a stroll along the river walk, then make the return trip by water taxi . Boating, using Jet Skis, fishing, and plain old wading are other options for enjoying the water.

The Colorado River is Laughlin's main street, offering a wealth of fun activities if you want to get wet. Thrill-seekers can take a fast ride on a Jet Ski or get out on a boat and waterski. For a more relaxed pace, tourists can adventure out in a kayak. Want to stay dry? No worries! Enjoy the peaceful back drop of the Colorado by fishing or taking a river cruise.

While the river might be a main attraction, Laughlin offers plenty of outdoor activities on solid ground as well. In Heritage Greenway Park you'll find miles of walking and hiking trails, as well as fishing nodes and a day-use park. For a journey back in time, check out the petroglyphs and explore boulders and narrow paths throughout Grapevine Canyon in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area.
